Welcome from our Head Boy and Girl
Our Student Leadership Team is led by our Head Girl and Head Boy, and they are supported by our Deputy Head Girl and Boy. These 12 month positions commence from September each academic year and all students in Year 12 or Year 13 are welcome to apply. Details about the competitive application process are made available to all students in assembly in early September.
The Student Leadership Team is supported by representatives from each sixth form tutor group to form the Sixth Form Student Council. Representatives meet with Miss Turner frequently to ensure there is a strong focus on student voice. Our student leaders make valuable contributions to key areas of school life beyond acting as exemplary role models, such as representing the school at events such as Options Evenings, providing school tours, delivering assemblies, contributing to our Armistice Day event, organising charity drives etc.
Amelia Jones - Head Girl
It is with great honour and excitement that I introduce myself as Wolgarston’s new Head Girl. My name is Amelia Jones, and I am currently studying A levels in: English Literature, History and Sociology - with the ambition of pursuing a career in law after completing my studies. I feel very privileged to have the opportunity to take on the role of Head Girl. Throughout my time at Wolgarston High School, I have made it my mission to act as a positive role model for my fellow pupils and have thoroughly enjoyed every moment of my journey through the year groups. I have been inspired by the supportive environment at Wolgarston along with the phenomenal opportunities that I have been offered throughout my time here. Wolgarston is truly an amazing place to learn, the staff are extremely supportive and always go that extra mile to help students in their studies. Therefore, I am thrilled to have been given the opportunity to give back to the Wolgarston community and continue to build on my own positive legacy.
As your Head Girl, I am determined to act as a valuable and present member of our school community. I aim to encourage a further sense of togetherness and inclusivity in order to make student life at Wolgarston High School the very best it can be. As I begin to consider my next steps after Wolgarston, I intend to challenge both my confidence and academic abilities this year in order to efficiently prepare myself to succeed in the field of law whilst also leaving a positive legacy here at Wolgarston.
I look forward to working with many of you during my time in this role and am keen to do all that’s necessary to make this academic year both successful and memorable.
Ben Yerbury - Head Boy
I’ve lived in Penkridge since I was three, having moved down from Bolton. I went on to attend St. Michael's in Penkridge and then went onto to study at Penkridge Middle after that, and now I’ve found myself at my last and favourite school Wolgarston, where I am currently studying: Maths, History and Chemistry as my A-Levels. I am hoping to go on to study Chemical Engineering at University.
As a keen sportsman, having played hockey and tennis for many years of my life, I hope to improve the variety of sports clubs available to students and to bring in inter-year competitions for a fun bit of competition. I’m also going to try and increase the revision guidance given by teachers for all years as that’s something I think would help make sure everyone gets the best grades and makes them the best version of themselves. Furthermore, I wish to increase the positive impact Wolgarston has on the community by increasing our support for local charities as it would be lovely to see the positive impact we have on people in our community. I’m thrilled to be accepted into the role of Head Boy and I can't wait to represent this amazing school and I look forward to working hard to improve the school for everybody.
Emma Binns - Deputy Head Girl
Hi, I'm Emma, and I am excited to be appointed as Deputy Head Girl for Wolgarston. I have attended this school since Year 9, and am now in Year 13, studying History, Maths, French and English Literature. I also enjoying playing the violin and am currently completing the Gold Duke of Edinburgh award. My aims include helping the Sixth Form to become as welcoming a place as possible and introducing more technology. At Wolgarston, I have enjoyed the positive and friendly atmosphere, and appreciated the excellent teachers; Wolgarston for me has been a supportive place and I hope that we can maintain and improve that for the younger students. In the future I hope to study Law and French at university, and I also hope that my love of languages is something that can be passed on to future generations of Wolgarston students.
Andrew Hill - Deputy Head Boy
Hi, my name is Andrew Hill. I am a Y13 Sixth Form Student and the new Deputy Head Boy for this school year. I joined Wolgarston in Year 9 and thoroughly enjoyed my school life in lower school, and even more so now in 6th Form. I am studying A-Level Maths, Further Maths and Physics. I am very "maths" minded!
My time at Wolgarston has been amazing; since joining, I have taken all the opportunities available to me. This includes sports and academic competitions, extra-curricular clubs after school, school trips to places such as Austria, Amsterdam and Iceland, and taken a real joy in the subjects that I have learnt. One of my favourite highlights was when my competitive nature came out, after I denied the chance of going on a school trip to participate in Sports Day. It was very worth it as my house did in fact win!
I really value the Wolgarston family, especially the connections between my teachers. I've found all of my teachers to be extremely helpful, always going out of their way to improve my education or even just to talk to me over the years. I intend to pay some of that back by being Deputy Head Boy, making a positive contribution to my school, and helping others wherever I can. I hope to be an approachable character for any student with any queries they may have and making sure every student has the best time at Wolgarston High School.
